Working 12-hour shifts is really tough. I would say that I’m on my feet at last 80-90% of the time: starting IV’s, running around to find pumps/wheelchairs/etc, walking people to and from their rooms, doing bedside procedures. The list goes on, and on, and on. The other day I was in a patient’s room doing a nasogastric lavage for almost an hour!!!

I have a problem with my left foot. I have this painful callous that has developed, and according to the podiatrist, I will always have this problem unless I do a few things differently.  I was given an opportunity to try the new “Work Wonders” shoes by Dansko. These shoes have eased the pain of my left foot so much! Dansko has made the “Work Wonders” shoes to be both stylish and incredibly comfortable.

There are many different features that I love about these shoes. First, they are slip-resistant. This is important because nurses are prone to slip, and fall on a number of things that end up on the floor. These shoes are easy to clean.  I regularly have at least one bodily fluid end up on my shoes. It’s so nice to wipe the shoes down at the end of my shift, and know that the shoes will be clean when I come home.  The “Work Wonders” shoes have a removable footbed! According to the podiatrist, orthotics will be in my future. I can easily remove the footbed of these shoes, replace them with my orthotics, and be compliant, and comfortable. They have odor control, because let’s be honest: my feet do not smell like plumeria’s at the end of a 12-hour-shift. At the end of the day, I don’t have to worry about the stench of removing my shoes when someone else is around. I had my last pair of Dansko’s for almost 5 years; they are made with great quality. I would highly recommend these shoes to anyone in the healthcare industry that is looking for shoes that are stylish, comfortable, and durable.
