Fridays-Anniversary and Things I’ve Learned

June 14, 2013

Today is our 4-year anniversary…..yeay!!! I can’t believe how fast time goes by!  It’s unbelievable! If someone had asked me when I was 21 how old I thought I would be when I got married, I would have said 30.  Turns out that God had other plans for me, and 23 was what he had in mind.  Being married has been a great adventure with lots of lessons learned along the way. I am so excited and honored to be sharing the rest of my life with my husband. Here are the top three things I have learned so far:

1. “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior,” Ephesians 5:22. This means respect your husband. Treat him as the leader of the household. In the same way, husbands will be energized by this, and in turn, love their wives.

2. “Better to live on the corner of a roof than to share a house with a nagging wife,” Proverbs 21:9.  No one likes a nagging Nancy.  It is a struggle, but I try to watch my tone and the words that I use when speaking to my husband. I’ve learned that it’s not WHAT i say, it’s HOW I say it. The response is much more pleasant when I am pleasant. Pick and choose your battles: don’t make World War III happen over dirty dishes, NOT WORTH IT!

3. “Be angry without sinning. Don’t let the sun set on your anger,” Ephesians 4:26. This is a biggie.  I think we have only gone to sleep angry once and that was because I fell asleep.  It’s so important to take care of issues when they happen, don’t sit and dwell on them, letting days go by without any resolution.  This is how anger and resentment build up, don’t let this happen!

Although, sometimes, we have moments like the following:
