Frugal Trip to Cambria

April 2, 2013

For the past two years my husband and I have been going to Cambria (California Central Coast.)  We scored on an awesome deal from Travelzoo: $189 for 2 nights, 2 breakfast for 2, a dinner for two (valued at $50) with a bottle of wine, and 6 wine-tasting vouchers. SWEET!!  We usually tack on the Cambria trip to our annual Solvang trip.  Every year we go to Solvang in January to have a mini-family reunion with my husband’s side of the family. All of the family stays at his aunts’ house and we usually eat, play games, eat, do puzzles and eat some more!

There are definite must-do’s in Cambria:

Wine tasting:

We received a free wine tasting for two to Harmony Cellars, a local winery!  One wine tasting was more than enough, I’m not quite sure how people do more than one without falling over. There are lots of wineries in the area that are very reasonable.

Dining at the Sea Chest

Ever since my friend recommended this place to me, we make it an annual stop.  It can be a little pricey, so this is the only other nice dinner we have besides the one provided with the Travelzoo deal.  Also, it can be quite busy, even during the week. We go to their bar area and play their games until our table is ready, they usually have a checkers board and a deck of cards for those waiting. I always order the Calamari steak!  So tasty!

Ride bikes

There are so many places to ride your bike in Cambria.  Below is a picture from a local park that has lots of hills with beautiful views.

Beach walk:

Their are tons of beach trails by PCH that lead you to all kinds of fun beach views.

Visit Morro Bay:

It’s such a beautiful place to stop and look around.  Or if you are my husband, stop and surf with a super thick wetsuit because that water is COLD!!!!

Visit cute coffee shops in Morro Bay:

Our favorite was Top Dog Coffee Bar.  They have lots of fun drink options including their Mexican Mocha which was amazing!

I love to stay at the Cambria Pines Lodge! My sister and I grew up in Santa Barbara, so when it was time for us to take our kids on a vacay a dozen years ago, we chose the beautiful drive up to Cambria and the coast to Monterey. Since then, many vacays have been up there. Love the beautiful flower nursery next door too 🙂
Moonstone beach next door is such a neat place too. =0) Thanks for this awesome blog!
