Looking for paradise? Welcome to Bora Bora

Bora Bora

There was no question of where we wanted to go for our honeymoon. We decided to go to “paradise,” and after googling paradise on the internet and looking at pictures of several different exotic locations, the vote was unanimous: my husband and I voted for Bora Bora.

The moment we arrived in Bora Bora we were greeted by a lei of the island’s Tiari flowers and by islanders singing in the airport.  The parking lot was a dock and we were shuttled to our hotel, Le Meridien by boat. We were fortunate to be able to stay on an over-the-water-bungalow, it was so KILLER! It seemed as if 70% of people at our hotel were on their honeymoon from all over the world, 20% were couples on vacation and 10% were families.

Docking station

Our friends had recently gone and they told us to pack light.  We did: bathing suits, board shorts, flip-flops, snorkel equipment, sunscreen and a few outfits is all you need.  All you want to do there is be outside, it’s glorious!  The water is warm, the weather is nice (with a few sporadic 10 minute rainstorms), and the scenery is breathtaking, except for these scary looking two!

Bora Bora

I would highly recommend vacationing to Bora Bora if you are looking for a once in a lifetime getaway.  No you are probably thinking, NF….what the heck, this isn’t frugal? The only drawback is that Bora Bora is quite pricey (especially the food because almost everything is imported. My husband and I decided to go before we went on a budget and adopted our frugal life.)  It is worth doing whatever you can to go: have a garage sale or 10, lemonade stand, bake sale, car wash, babysitting your kids friends…..anything!! We were fortunate to have friends who were able to get us half off the price of our bungalow, without them, there would have been no way we could have afforded the honeymoon. We skipped lunch and ate the protein bars we packed, and our own snorkeling equipment; this saved us an incredible amount of money.  Also, we didn’t go through our hotel for any excursions, we called them up and bargained with them to get better prices, and we did on all of them: off-roading excursion and swimming with sharks and sting-rays.  Lastly, we set up a honeymoon registry as part of our wedding gift options and this helped to take quite a bit off the price 😉

Cool! I believe that you can’t do everything you want, but you can do some things, and this looks like one of the things you should totally do. Great pics.

Haha, so you decided to go BEFORE being frugal. So for my wife and me who already are frugal, we’re screwed? lol. It looks like a place to save up for though, that’s for sure.

Great photos! It looks great there. I haven’t been, but I do love traveling to tropical locations. This one is one of my targets. And don’t worry about being frugal. We actually make going on a nice vacation like this a top priority for the family each year.
