Dave Ramsey: Total Money Makeover

March 17, 2012

Why I love this book:  This book teaches you steps to becoming totally debt free and changing your family tree.  Mr. BigTime and I both read the book and LOVED it!! I was never interested in budgeting, finances and retirement until after I read this book.  Dave Ramsey has a great way of breaking down the technical financial terms down so that laymen or laywomen like me can understand. We totally changed our spending habits, we used to go to Costco and wonder how we ended up spending $200 every time we went to buy only milk and bananas. We had also bought two brand new cars within a year of getting married…we will NEVER do that again!  Did you know that a new car loses 60 percent of its value in the first four years?  Dave Ramsey says to understand this concept, open your window on your way to work once a week and throw out a $100 bill!  No thank you!

Mr. Bigtime and I got on a budget, increased our retirement contributions, and we are now working on paying off our house by next year.  It was so hard living paycheck to paycheck and spending money that we hoped to have once the credit card bill came in the mail.  Now, if we want something, we save for it.  It feels so great to be able to pay for something with cash after you have planned it out, and not on an impulse. I mention this book to everyone I know as a way to get in control of their finances. In upcoming blogs, I will go into detail about tools that have helped us with our budgeting and why we decided do become totally debt free. Mr. BigTime and I buy these books when they go on sale at Dave’s website and we give them away to people throughout the year. If you like this book, you should really check out his radio show.

I started reading this book a few years ago but never finished it. It does have some great tips in it though, and my parents swear by it! Maybe one day I’ll finish it 🙂 xoxo, morgan

Thanks Morgan! I’m hoping to retire in my mid 40’s, if not sooner thanks to what that book teaches 😉
