Homemade Tasty Turkey Burgers
Homemade Tasty Turkey Burger
Adapted from Emealz
I doubled the recipe, the total cost for all my ingredients was approximately $24. This was enough to feed 4 people for dinner and have leftovers for two days. My two favorite local stores to find frugal deals on groceries are: Stater Bros and a local Mexican Tiendita across the street.
Ingredients (double for leftovers):
1 c old-fashioned oats
(1 T chili powder, 1⁄4 t salt, 2 egg whites)
1 c chopped sweet onion
14 oz can diced tomatoes, drained & chopped 1.5 lbs ground turkey
6 hamburger buns
6 – 8 romaine lettuce leaves
1 tomato, sliced
(Mayo, mustard)
Optional condiments:
Bean sprouts or alfalfa sprouts
Pepperjack cheese
Avocado
1 Yellow onion
6 oz Mushrooms
1 Green Bell Pepper
Directions:
1. Saute Mushrooms, Bell peppers and Onions, set aside
2. In a large bowl, combine oats, chili powder, salt, egg whites, onion, tomatoes and ground turkey.
3. Shape into 6 patties.
4. Cook in a hot skillet or grill pan, 6 minutes per side, or until cooked through. Do NOT cook on the barbeque, patties will fall apart!
5. Serve on buns with lettuce, tomato, sauteed veggies, sprouts, cheese, avocado and/or any other desired toppings.
